ABOUT AIKIDO Aikido is a martial art founded in Japan in the early
part of the last century by Morihei Ueshiba
(1883-1969), who became known as O'Sensei.
After studying many forms of traditional martial arts,
O'Sensei discovered that their essence was not
to compete with and destroy others but to
unify body, mind and spirit to create a peaceful
society. Aikido is a truly holistic practice,
combining physical techniques with
mental and spiritual discipline. Using powerful
circular movements, Aikido techniques embody the
principle of non-resistance wherein the defender
moves in complete harmony with the attacker,
bringing the conflict to a peaceful conclusion for
both. Aikido techniques do not depend on mere
physical strength, but rather on relaxation and
serenity of mind. Therefore, Aikido training can
be a lifelong study, benefiting young and old alike.
